The performance of the President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s government has had mixed results so far.  But judging from the enormous problems inherited by Solih, it is fair to say that Solih is doing his best.

The Supreme Court of Maldives is said to have made yet another strike at the roots of democracy in Maldives.
 
 Earlier, last year it interfered with the conduct of the General elections and even went to the extent of sacking both the Election Commissioner and his Deputy for not adhering to the sixteen point guide lines issued by them on the conduct of the elections.
 

Maldives: The Importance of Gayoom:

One cannot but admire the way former President Gayoom has worked himself up to become the most powerful person in Maldives once again.  Perhaps in the South Asian context there is no political leader who is as wily as Gayoom. In his own subtle and quiet manner he has smoothly regained his former position without creating any major controversy!
 

Maldives: Gasim’s Jumhooree Party thrown out from the Ruling Coalition:

It was not a surprise that Gasim’s Jumhooree party was removed from the ruling coalition on 28th of May when  Gasim contested for the post of the Speaker of the New Majlis (national parliament) that assembled after the elections.
