New York Times’ (NYT) editorial of 28th March on bombing by a splinter group of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan is a reminder, if one is at all needed, of the barbarity into which a part of humanity has descended in the name of religion.

Pakistan: The North Waziristan Operations: Some Observations

With the visit of Nawaz Sharif along with his Army Chief to Miramshah on 9th October, it is said that operation Zarb-e-Azb is almost coming to an end. The PM was informed that 80 percent of the area has been cleared.

Top military commanders claimed that the militants who had run away will not be allowed to regroup and return to the NWA. ( North Waziristan Agency)

Though intensive operations against the TTP commenced on 23rd May 2014, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) formally christened the operation as “Zarb-e-Azb” on 15th of June.  This was a week after the  audacious attack by the TTP on Karachi International Airport on the morning of 8th June. 
 

Pakistan: Army poised for full scale offensive against TTP in North Waziristan:

On 24th of May, the Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan of Pakistan had announced that no decision had been taken for a full scale military operation in North Waziristan.  But there are many indications that show that the Army is poised to begin a regular offensive soon and perhaps this could happen in a week.

It looks that finally the Pakistan Army had its way in going against TTP camps in South Waziristan despite genuine reservations from the political leadership led by Nawaz Sharief and his Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.
