It is now official. Defying all predictions, the National League for Democracy (NLD) of Suu Kyi has swept the polls with 258 and 138 in the Lower and Upper Houses respectively, thus exceeding its own performance in the 2015 elections (390). In all it has won 920 seats that include the Lower and Upper Houses, the State and Regional Parliaments and in Ethnic Affairs ministers.

General Elections for a new Government at the Union and State Levels went off peacefully amidst the twin threats of an Army Coup and the Spread of the Wuhan Virus.
People voted enthusiastically from 6 AM from many of the booths and in some cases had assembled even before 6 to vote.

Despite suggestions from various parties but not the Ruling Party for postponement due to the spread of Wuhan Virus, the Union Election Commission declared that the Elections will take place on November 8th as scheduled.
