It is noticed that the UN and some Western Countries are putting undue pressure on the civilian leadership in Myanmar thus straining the delicate and cautious relationship between the civilian government led by Suu Kyi and the Tatmadaw (the Army). The problem relates to the events in Rakhine State and the exodus of nearly six to seven hundred thousand Rohingyas to Bangladesh.

With the Cease fire process as well as the desired progress in Constitutional reforms going no where, it is but natural, that the Government of Suu Kyi is trying rearrange the priorities and focus more on the economy.

Prince Zeid bin Raád Zeid al-Hussain, the current United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in an interview to the BBC called for an international criminal investigation into the perpetrators of what he called the “shockingly brutal attacks”against Muslim ethnic groups in the northern Rakhine in Myanmar.

On the night of 24th August, Rohingyan militants staged a coordinated attack on 30 Police posts that cover more than 24 villages around Maungdaw. They also tried unsuccessfully to storm an Army Base. The attackers held only a few small arms, machetes and home made explosive bombs but no sophisticated weapons.
