When former President Yameen lost the election in end September last year, it was believed that the Solih Government would soon investigate various allegations against him of corruption and money laundering involving millions of dollars of Government money.

On 23rd September, President Yameen lost the Presidential elections by an overwhelming margin to the opposition candidate Ibu Solih.  After conceding defeat publicly, Yameen met the opposition candidate and indeed congratulated him.
 
But within a week the wily President urged his followers to protest against the election results.

Maldives: A Surprise Victory for Opposition Candidate Solih!

In a surprise result, the opposition candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih won the Presidential election with an overwhelming majority with 58.3 percent of the total votes.  Present President Yameen conceded defeat and is said to have personally met Solih to congratulate him.
