In my earlier paper 6497 of 20th September 2019, titled “Renewed Fighting by Northern Alliance - Is China Part of Problem”, I had stated that there is an increasing suspicion and expressed by some even in Myanmar that China is not doing enough and does want to do enough either in bringing to an end the ethnic conflict in Myanmar. In one of my earlier papers on Myanmar 6519 of 12 Feb, 2020, I had said that the visit of Xi Jin Ping though declared to be part of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties, the real reason appeared to be to regain the lost momentum of strategic dominance.

For the first time, the Myanmar Government formally handed over 22 Indian insurgents from the North East to the Indian Consul General at Hkmati airport on the 16th of May this year.

As on 2nd May, the total number of confirmed cases comes to 151 of whom 37 have been cured. There have been only six deaths so far.

As of 19th April, there have been only 107 instances of Wuhan Virus infections and five deaths. There have been five recoveries too. Of the five, four deaths occurred in Yangon Region. Until last week the number of infections were only in double digits and those were spread out throughout the country.

Fighting in Northen Myanmar between the Myanmar Armed Forces and the Arakan Army has of late intensified and the Myanmar Army despite having more than 20,000 Soldiers in the area is certainly not winning.
