Maldives: The Judiciary Needs a Thorough Cleanup:

The judiciary continues to be the weakest link in Maldives in its march towards democracy.  Except for the opposition MDP, no other political party appears to be concerned by the poor performance of the judiciary.  What is more, the Judicial commission which is supposed to be the “Watch Dog” over functioning of the judiciary appears to be highly politicised.

Pakistan made history on May 05 when PML (N) leader Nawaz Sharif was sworn in as the new Prime Minister of Pakistan.  Sharif’s government took over from another democratic government led by the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), which also created a record for being the first civilian government to have completed its full five year tenure.

The Election Commission of Bhutan officially announced the schedule of National Assembly Elections. 

As laid down in the Constitution the election will be in two stages.  In the first stage, two of the four parties who poll the maximum in the election to be held on 31 May will be chosen for the second stage to be held on July 13.

Premier Li Kequiang of China, who took over in March last, is to visit India, Pakistan, Switzerland and Germany during his first round of overseas visits after taking over as the Prime Minister.

2. His clubbing together his visits to India and Pakistan on his way to Europe indicates the equal importance which the newly-elected Chinese leadership attaches to China’s relations with India and Pakistan.
