Bhutan was declared as the most peaceful country in this region and is ranked 13th among the 163 countries in the world on the Global Peace Index.  This index is compiled periodically by the Institute for economics and peace ( IEP).

Maoist Chief Dahal is poised to take over as Prime Minister in place of Oli.  Till the time of writing no other leader has registered for election to the post of Prime Minister, though there were reports from the valley that the former Speaker Nembang may be put up as a candidate from the UML.

On 12th July, the Maoist Centre of Nepal led by Dahal formally withdrew its support to Oli’s government.  The next day a no confidence motion against  Oli was filed in the Parliament.

PM Oli who had hopes to continue as the Prime Minister till the next General election in Jan or Feb 2018 is facing many problems and it is not certain whether he would continue for long.  His own party leadership as well as his coalition partners are against him and he is being accused of having failed to resolve all the outstanding problems.

The Madhesi groups led by a few opportunistic leaders have once again embarked on a renewed programme of agitation to press for their demands.  The new programme is said to be different in the sense that it will be Kathmandu centric and will also involve other marginalised Janajathi groups.

With the recall and dismissal of the Nepalese Ambassador to India for conniving with India to “topple” Oli’s government, Indo Nepal Relations reached a new “low.”    Added to this was the sudden and abrupt cancellation of the visit of President Bidya Devi Bhandari to India.
