Daw Aung San Suu Kyi visited India from 13-18 November 2012. During the visit, in New Delhi, she met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Vice president Hamid Ansari, Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Minister for External Affairs Salman Kurshid, Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai and speaker of Lok Sabha Meira Kumar. 

Time to Avoid Romanticisation of Aung San Suu Kyi

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is presently on a visit to India where she grew up and studied as a teen-ager. Her widowed mother was posted as the Myanmar Ambassador to India. She delivered the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Lecture at New Delhi on November 14, 2012. She was interviewed on November 15 by Barkha Dutt of NDTV and Karan Thapar of CNN-IBN. Before her arrival, she gave a detailed interview to Nirupama Subramanian of “The Hindu”.

Obama’s Tricky Visit to Myanmar

In his first foreign visit after being re-elected, President Barack Obama will be in Cambodia, Myanmar and Thailand from November 17 to 20, 2012. His visit to Cambodia is to attend the East Asia summit. The brief visits to Myanmar and Thailand will be bilateral.

Myanmar: Lull in Communal Rioting in Rakhine State.

Since the afternoon of October 26,2012, there has been a lull in communal rioting between the Buddhists and Rohingya Muslims in the Rakhine State (Arakan ) of Myanmar.

2. The rioting broke out on October 21,2012, reportedly following demonstrations  by some Buddhists against allowing the OIC to open a humanitarian relief office in Yangon. The Rohingya Muslims wanted the office to be opened.

Myanmar: Communal Clashes Worsen in Rakhine State

The fresh communal clashes  between Buddhists and Rohingya Muslims in the Rakhine State of Myanmar, which broke out on October 21,2012, have worsened despite the induction of security forces reinforcements by the Government.
