In what could be described as a positive step, Representatives of the Northern Alliance consisting of TNLA, AA and the MNDAA met the Myanmar Peace Mission on 1st November and reached an agreement to reduce clashes in Kachin and Northern Shan States. They also agreed to meet again in December to discuss the implementation of the agreement.

In what is being considered as a breakthrough, State Counselor Suu Kyi, Army Chief Ming Aung Hliang and selected leaders of Ethnic Armed Organisations are to hold talks on 15th of this month, to discuss ways of resolving deadlocks that have left the peace process stalled.

The Myanmar Government appears to be coming under a siege mainly by the international organizations and some western countries. If their idea is to throw Myanmar back into the arms of the Chinese, they are perhaps already succeeding. Even if the Government and the people want to get out of the stranglehold of China, the mission of these agencies is to ensure that it does not happen.
